The story behind Everlasting Arms🤍

On December 19th 2017 we recorded our newest release Everlasting Arms. That’s right, two and a half years ago! There was something so special about this song but none of us at the time knew how far the story would go. It was written a couple of months after I was engaged to my now husband, and reflected on the the journey I would begin while shining a light on the love stories lived by those who were in the room that day (Scott & John). As the recording session came to an end we knew the song wasn’t finished but we let it sit and settle for awhile before we went back to work on it again. Well little did we realize that an entire year had gone by! In December of 2018 after the release of our debut EP Trouble, we began work on the next group of songs in our portfolio. Some new and some that had been sitting for longer than we were aware of. While sitting in the studio that day, we listened to the song again to see where it stood and if we felt it still was missing something. It was fresh and so uniquely different from anything else we had worked on. As we sat and pondered on exactly what the song needed to complete it, a few ideas were thrown out. Was it more guitar? Bass? Fiddle? None of the obvious instruments really stuck out. Then the word was said. Harmonica! It needed that sweet romance of a harmonica sound. It wasn’t as simple as it sounds though. We needed the right player so as often times we do, we began to dream out loud about how cool it would be to have that dream harmonica player. The one that played on our heroes records. As we joked about how cool that would be, the reality of the situation was, a little independent band from Charlotte probably couldn’t afford that guy no matter how bad they wanted to. Well here is where the story gets cool. I’ve always been encouraged to have people surrounding me that believe in me and believe in my passions and it’s the same motto we live by as a band. That day as we sat and discussed this harmonica player, Dan Hood (producer) and Chris Garges (engineer, and owner of Old House Studio) encouraged us to explore it. What’s the worst that could happen? They say no? Or they just don’t respond? As an artist those things happen all the time so what makes this any different? Well to make a long story short, after a few messages sent back and forth between Chris and some of his friends in Nashville, we were able to contact this person directly. To our surprise, he responded within minutes and after a very short time Mickey Raphael had agreed to play on our project. The man who has worked for 47 years with Willie Nelson, and played or recorded with Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Norah Jones, and so many more. He was so kind and generous with his time and even when he didn’t have to, he complimented our work and was a complete pro. The song was already special but the Harmonica took it to a whole other dreamy level. As I sit here and reminisce on the story and how it all unfolded, I am beyond grateful for the people in our path that aren’t afraid to dream with us and push us to act on those dreams no matter how crazy they may seem. A huge thank you to Mickey for bringing this song to life and for being a part of it. We are forever grateful. As for everyone who had downloaded it or streamed it, we hope you love it and hope you enjoyed this story. You just never know what a song will do when it’s written. This one is so special to us and I have a feeling it always will be. #everlastingarms#newmusic #countrymusic #harmonica
